Mobius Dance is looking for a diverse group of people to join our Board of Trustees to support the Chair and our leadership team taking the organisation into the future, whilst remaining true to our mission and values.

We are looking for up to 4 new Trustees including a Hon. Treasurer and Hon. Secretary. Each Trustee shall be appointed for a term of two years. You will need to share a passion for our work, and be committed to Mobius Dance being an equal, diverse and inclusive organisation. 

This will be a voluntary position. You will be expected to attend quarterly meetings (a maximum of 4 meetings per year), plus a yearly away day to support the company’s strategy and planning, plus a few hours each month supporting the company’s aims with your specific skills. 

The Board is responsible for guarding the ethos, values and purpose of the organisation and together with and informed by the organisation’s employees, develops long-term strategies and plans. 

We are looking for Trustees who:

  • Are strategic and creative thinkers

  • Can offer specific expertise and knowledge in relevant fields

  • Are open communicators

  • Have the ability to advocate for the organisation

  • Can commit to the time required

  • Understand and accept the legal duties and responsibilities of the role.

 New Trustees will enable the Board to meet its commitment to:

  • Ensuring the activities of the Board will be able to stand the test of scrutiny by the public, members, stakeholders, funders and the Charity Commission

  • Striving for an atmosphere of openness throughout the organisation to promote confidence of the public, members, stakeholders, funders and the Charity Commission.

We are interested to hear from people from a variety of backgrounds, and a wide range of diverse skills whether they have experience in being a Board Member or not.

Time commitments 

  • Board meetings take place every quarter (June, September, December, March). Each meeting will take up to 2hrs.

  • Annual General Meetings take place in conjunction with September Board meetings.

  • As the company develops, occasionally, additional time may be needed to join a working group outside the usual quarterly cycle of Board meetings.

Recruitment of new Trustees 

The Company is seeking to appoint members with the energy, skills, expertise and connections to support the achievement of its new strategic objectives and who:

  • Are willing to commit time and energy, not just to preparing for and attending meetings, but to inspiring, challenging and supporting the leadership team, including attending some performances and acting as an ambassador for the Company in contributing to our future development and sustainability.

  • Are innovative and creative thinkers able to stimulate and contribute to well-rounded and carefully considered strategic decision-making.

  • Have the highest aspirations for the Company and strive for excellence at all times.

  • Are dedicated, committed and self-motivated.

The Duties of a Board Member are:

  • To ensure that Mobius Dance complies with its governing document, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

  • To ensure that Mobius Dance pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.

  • To ensure that Mobius Dance applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.

  • To contribute actively to the board’s role in giving firm strategic direction to Mobius Dance, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

  • To safeguard the good name and values of Mobius Dance.

  • To ensure that effective and efficient administration of Mobius Dance.

  • To ensure the financial sustainability of Mobius Dance.

  • To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity’s funds.

  • In addition, to the above statutory duties, each Board Member should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focussing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, coaching staff or other matters in which the trustee has special expertise.

Board Member Person Specification

  • A commitment to Mobius Dance and its work

  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort

  • Strategic vision

  • Good, independent judgement

  • An ability to think creatively

  • A willingness to speak their mind

  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

  • A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Location of meetings 

Mostly in Bradford and Leeds. The Trustees can attend meetings via conference calling or Skype from time to time.
